…We have been approved as the new owners of this guy:
So, here’s the question: what should his final name be? We had thought "Archie," but we’re not sure. John’s kind of keen on something that reflects either his color or the star on his chest. So, we’ve come up with a few choices, but are also open to something else. I’d be interested to know what you think of the following choices, or suggest something we haven’t come up with (always keeping in mind that despite the supposed democracy of a poll, we’re going to choose the name we like best):

I like Nero. Because (a) he looks like a dog that would enjoy being called Cap’n. (b) He’s black. (c) Stars are for navigation. So you get colour *and* star reference, plus a really cute nickname.
Mostly though, as much as I like some of the other names, they just don’t seem to fit him so well…

We were there with “Nero” as “black” in Portuguese, but wasn’t it “Captain Nemo”? Or was there another Captain Nero?
John’s having second thoughts about Nero at any rate, considering the Emperor’s sad history (I said, “Don’t you want a dog to fiddle while Rome burns?” Not so much, apparently. And there’s that killing his mother thing…)

I voted for “Archie”–I totally get John’s approach, and that’s usually the sort of method I like to use. But he’s so happy looking that Archie seems to fit him better than the others. I would have picked “Rigel” second, I think, since it fits both the star and, well, it pleases my inner geek.

In support of John’s desire to reflect the star on NewDog’s chest, I would like to suggest the name “Sneeeeeeeeetch”, or Sneetch for short. Dr. Seuss and his army of star-belly-sneetches would be supportive. I think Amelia would support that too, but eating the book would be the highest priority for her. Eating any book is tops for her..

I vote for Archibald Rigel Fenway. You can call him Archie for short.

You can’t name him Fenway — TBogg named his new Basset Fenway. (He Basset blogs every Thursday evening.) The confusion will cause the internets to implode!
