Love Lamott - and *adore* BBB. Glad you finally broke down.

Writing Down the Bones is also good - but more of an workshoppy book - not as engaging story-wise as BBB.

I *have* Writing Down the Bones (two copies, I think--I may have inherited my mom's copy), and have never read it. Erp. I LOVE (love, love) Bird by Bird. When I was dean at CTY, I encouraged an instructor to assign "Shitty First Drafts" to his students.

How strange -- I'm reading both of these books too. Writing down the bones I've had for many years and revisit it regularly. The other one I stole off of Mr. Spy's desk and am loving. He has since stolen it back, so I'm temporarily on hold with that one.
